FAQs – Licensing

 

What are the different licensing options?

We offer floating client licenses. A floating license does not require an activation code for each client license. An activation code is required for server only. It is controlled by the number of concurrent users.


What are CASE Spec’s license requirements? Is installation limited to a few computers?

CASE Spec provides floating client licenses. You can install the application on an unlimited number of computers; however, the number of users that can access CASE Spec concurrently (at the same time) is controlled by the number of floating licenses purchased.For example, if you purchase five floating licenses, you can install CASE Spec on any number of computers – but, only five users may access the server simultaneously.


Are there any license keys required?

License keys are not required for each user. However, a license key is required for server installation.

How long does it take to deploy CASE Spec in our environment?

CASE Spec can be deployed very quickly for both local and globally dispersed teams. A typical deployment would be 5-30 minutes.


What are the system requirements for the server?

The CASE Spec server can be used on any Windows machine, including Windows 2003/2008/2012 server.  A minimum of 1 GB of RAM is highly recommended.


Does CASE Spec need a database?

No. CASE Spec includes a Free enterprise database that is highly scalable to TBs of data.


Where does CASE Spec’s database reside?

CASE is a high-performance multi-tier, multi-thread application. CASE Spec is very easy to install and deploy for local and virtual teams. CASE Spec’s server (with database) can be installed on your computers.


Where are documents stored?

In CASE Spec, all artifacts, including data, documents, and models are stored in a central shared repository.How is the product delivered?


Can I automate the backup of my CASE Spec files?

Yes. Please refer to the “Automatic Backup” topic in the CASE Spec Server & DB Admin Manual.


What are the server maintenance requirements?

CASE Spec is virtually maintenance free. Regularly backing up the database (which can be automated) is recommended.

Each CASE Spec licensed copy includes one-year free upgrades and support. After the first year, upgrades and support may be purchased for an additional fee equal to 20% of the total cost of CASE Spec.
